As an Android user, you may have noticed or experienced some new pop-ups in your Sideline infobar after you installed the newest software update.
These prompts ask you to enable various device permissions as they are needed for Sideline to function properly and to optimize your use of the application for you personal and/or business needs.
With the newest update, Android is now giving their users the ability to mange all permissions manually one-by-one. Here's a breakdown of how each type of permission will effect Sideline and instructions on how to enable those permissions on your Android device.
"Allow Sideline to access your contacts?" is the prompt for contact permissions. With this permission disabled, Sideline can't access contacts, thus you won't know who is calling/texting you and you will be unable to sync your contacts, save a phone number or edit contact info.
To enable: Tap Settings >> Permissions >> Turn Contacts On
Note: This permission is strictly for functional purposes. We never access or share this info in the background.
Sideline needs permission to access your microphone to make/receive phone calls, set custom voicemail greetings and record videos.
Android uses "record audio" as the terminology to allow microphone access.
To Enable: Tap Settings >> Permissions >> Turn Microphone On
Note: Don't worry, we do not actually record anything! This is just the terminology that Android uses to enable microphone access.
Enabling Phone permissions are crucial to the core function of Sideline.
"Allow Sideline to make and manage phone calls?" is the prompt for phone permissions. With this permission disabled, Sideline cannot make and receive calls and thus your 2nd number will not function properly.
To enable: Tap Settings >> Permissions >> Turn Phone On
Note: We never access your phone in the background.
"Allow Sideline to access photos, media and files on your device?" is the prompt for storage permissions.
To save pictures, videos, or ringtones on your device, Sideline needs access to your device storage.
To enable: Tap Settings >> Permissions >> Turn Storage On
If call log permissions are disabled, you will see your Sideline incoming and outgoing calls (pilot numbers) in your devices' call record. This "clutter" could be frustrating so that is why it is very important to enable call log permissions when using Sideline.
