There are important and time-sensitive industry-wide requirements for businesses leveraging cloud phone systems that impact you if you send business text messages (also known as Application-to-Peer messaging - A2P) to U.S. numbers (peer-to-peer - P2P).
Background
Three major U.S. carriers (AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon) now require customers of virtual phone solutions to register their company with The Campaign Registry (TCR) in order to send messages to U.S. phone numbers. TCR is the reputation authority for business messaging (A2P) on a 10-digit long code (10DLC).
Why?
This is done in response to the increased fraudulent activity targeting consumers and will allow carriers to know who is sending each message on their network.
Who does this impact?
This will eventually impact all customers of virtual phone solutions. Sometime this year, to continue sending text messages to the three major carriers, you’ll need to register your company with TCR.
At this time, the new registration step applies to any business sending messages to U.S. numbers through a cloud phone provider.
What are we doing in response?
In summary, we’re aware of the issues this may pose to our users and we are diligently watching these regulations and how they have been changing. We are always working with carriers, along with our partners to ensure consistent message delivery while utilizing our services.
What do I need to do?
No action is needed on your end at this time. Sideline numbers are considered (P2P) messages and the above information applies to A2P messaging only.
