One feature of the iOS 18 update allows you to hide apps in a private, locked folder on your iPhone. Apps placed in this folder will not receive call notifications.
How this impacts Sideline
While you can technically “hide” the Sideline app on your iPhone, doing so will not prevent you from receiving call notifications (which is Apple's intent with this feature).
Sideline relies on your device’s phone number to route calls to Sideline, so that is why this feature does not work with our app specifically. However, we have a simple workaround to prevent Sideline call notifications if you'd like (see below).
FYI: Text notifications will be silenced as expected, this workaround helps to silence call notifications.
How to silence notifications
If you’d like to still silence/hide CALL notifications from Sideline, we have a workaround for you:
- View your Sideline Settings.
- Under Calling, select ”VoIP Calling”
- Toggle the button to enable.
- Tap “OK” to confirm that VoIP calling is enabled.
VoIP Calling will prevent notifications from coming through, so we’ve found this to be the easiest workaround for silencing these notifications.
Important to note about VoIP Calling
- Emergency calls cannot be made while VoIP calling is enabled.
- These calls require a strong data connection for optimal call performance (WiFi, 4G/5G, or LTE)
