Yes. While Sideline calls go through your carrier's network to provide the best call quality, it is crucial to have a strong data or Wi-Fi signal at first in order for the Sideline call to connect to the Pinger Voice Network (PVN), and allow the call to reach your contact.
Once the call successfully connects, it switches over to your carrier's network and uses your minutes. Therefore, it's important to understand what exactly your service plan entails, otherwise, standard fees may apply.
If you attempt to place a call or send a message with your data or Wi-Fi turned off, you will receive an error message to check your network connection (as seen below.)
The only exception to the information above is if you have VoIP Calling enabled in Sideline settings. VoIP calling uses data or WiFi instead of your cellular network for calls.
Note:
- Depending on your cellular plan, you may be charged by your service provider if you use VoIP calling with your data.
- VoIP Calling is not available for Team Number accounts.
We recommend you contact your service provider with any questions about calling or messaging costs and what your service plan entails.
If you have any further questions, please submit a request.
